Assistant Editor for Magazine Production Somos en escrito Magazine is looking for a book lover with a passion for connecting with audiences and a goal of promoting and disseminating Indigenous-Hispanic literature. Responsibilities would be to aid in the production of our literary magazine, including searching for potential contributors, providing feedback and setting up features and reviews.
Assistant Editor for Social Media Responsible for improving our social media presence and engaging readers using various platforms, as well as contacting writers to know more of our magazine and Press as a place to submit stories, poems, essays and books. Meets regularly with editors to plan and implement a social media campaign.
Assistant Editor for Video Editing Somos en escrito Magazine is looking for a video whiz to aid in creating videos of Indigenous and Latino, Latina, Latinx literary performance and book trailers for our independent press.
Responsibilities will be to work with poets and writers to edit their videos for our YouTube channel and with authors for book trailers as well as videos for our interviews and panels.

The jobs we seek to fill are volunteer unpaid positions, but the perks include gaining experience in online publication, applying your own writing skills in many aspects of the publication process including submitting your own writing for publication, contacting the amazing range of writers that comprise the literatura indígena-hispana of the USA.
HOURS: 5-20 PER WEEK WEEKLY STAFF MEETINGS
If applicable, Somos en escrito could provide college credit through an applicant’s university. In some circumstances, a student may take advantage of work-study programs at their schools.

Like awoken crypt fiends and stasis cocoon astronauts, we all this year have emerged into the black of night or the warmth of the sunlit alien world once more. The Extra Fiction Contest is Emerging, our intention, our theme. While submissions may be of any Speculative, Slipstream, Magic Realism, Fantasy, Science Fiction, or Horror theme, we are keeping a few of our extra eyestalks out for anything EMERGING.
Contest submission is free and is open for any Indigenous-Hispanic person from or residing in the USA (of American Indian, Chicano/Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban American, Dominican American, Central American, South American origin).
Manuscripts must be unpublished, in English, Spanish, or Ingléspañol. Put “2021 Extra-Fiction Contest” in the email subject line. Email Word format (.docx) unpublished submissions with short bio in third person and author’s photo to email@example.com. One submission per author, 6,000 word limit, contact us beforehand if the submission is over 6,000 words. Submission is free. Deadline is September 30, 2021. Science-fiction stories published in Somos en escrito during the year are considered for the contest.
Prizes: 1st place: $100 and a copy of Porvenir Ya!, Chicano Sci-fi Anthology (upcoming 2021) 2nd place: Copy of Porvenir Ya! 3rd place: Copy of Porvenir Ya! Two Honorary Mentions. All Finalists will have their stories published online in Somos en escrito Literary Magazine.
